Job Description:
Black River Electric Cooperative is currently seeking a qualified candidate to join the team for the position of Night Clerk/Dispatcher at its headquarters in Fredericktown, Missouri. The hours of work for this position will vary. At present, the work period will be scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Candidates should be aware that shifts may vary based on operational needs and will require flexibility in shift assignments to provide 24 hour coverage within the department.
Job Qualifications and Responsibilities:
Candidates are required to have a high school diploma. Must have customer service experience and the ability to engage with the public. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Must be able to multi-task in a dynamic and, at times, fast-paced environment. Candidate must be proficient in computer skills and have knowledge of AutoCAD.

BREC is hiring an entry-level or mid-level electrical engineering position. Assisting in or performing system modeling for planning and coordination, project management, data analytics, and electrical design review.

Key Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
- Experience: Relevant experience in electric utility system planning, preferably with an electric cooperative.
- Knowledge: Proficient with power system analysis software (Milsoft), GIS Software (ESRI), project management tools, Microsoft Office suite and industry standards. Familiar with electrical engineering principles and practices.
- Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and deliver technical presentations.
- Attitude: Positive attitude with a team-oriented mindset.
- Certification: Professional Engineering Credentials are preferred.
About the Role
As a Planning Engineer at BREC, you will be responsible for developing and executing long-term and short-term plans for the electric system, ensuring reliable and cost-effective power delivery to members. This includes conducting system studies, preparing reports, and collaborating with fellow employees. In addition, the position requires assisting the service department with outage restoration through the utilization of BREC’s Outage Management System and SCADA system.
Key duties
- System Planning: Conducts load forecasting, system studies (power flow, short-circuit, etc.), and analyzes the impact of new members or equipment on the system.
- Project Planning: Develops and manages project schedules, budgets, and resources for capital projects related to the electric grid.
- System Optimization: Identifies opportunities to optimize the electric grid for reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaboration: Works closely with other engineers, project managers, and external consultants to ensure projects are successful.
- Compliance: Ensures compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines.
- Reporting: Prepares reports, presentations, and documentation to support system planning and project management.
- Electrical Modeling: Maintains an accurate electrical model that is utilized for system analysis, load forecasting, and cooperative mapping.
- Management: Directly assists the Manager of Engineering with supervising the Engineering and Warehouse departments.
